Three categories in which a color wheel is divided are:
Primary colors:- Red, Yellow, Blue 
Secondary colors:- orange, green, violet
Tershiory colors:- yellow orange, red orange, red violet, blue violet, blue green, yellow green
Warm colors:- Red, Yellow, Orange
cool color:- Blue, Green, Purple
CLASSIFICATION OF COLORS ON THE BASIS OF EFFECTS/APPEARANCE:  
  • WARM COLORS:- Colors with the dominance of red yellow and orange are warm colors. These are bright colors and give an effect of warm. These has inspiring and cheerful effects, And also stimulate a person. The use of warm is an object leads to an illusion of nearness and vastness.
  • COOL COLORS:- Color such as blue, green, purple are cool colors. These color give a feeling of coolness and leand piece to a  person and are also gloomy. The use of cool color in an object gives an illusion of farness and smallness.
USE OF DIFFERENT COLORS IN ANY ARTISTIC CREATION IS KNOWN AS COLOR SCHEME:-

  • MONOCHROMATIC:-  In such a scheme their is one base color which is used in variety values and intensities.
  • ANALOGOUS:-  In this scheme such colors are used which are adjacent to each other on the color wheel.
  • COMPLEMENTARY:- These colors are chosen from color wheel which are opposite to each other. eg:- red-green.
  • DOUBLE COMPLEMENTARY:- In this, a color is used with their opposite secondary color. eg:- green-red-yellow-violet 
  • SPLIT COMPLEMENTARY:- In this, a color is used with the  adjacent color leaving its opposite color. eg:- green-red violet-red orange.
  • TRIAD:- In this scheme, three such color are used which are equally distant on the color weel. eg- green-orange-violet.
